Past owner Paul Pecorella |
Modern Leather Goods was started in 1939 by Ben Rosen in New York City.
The company handled
repair work for the finest department stores of the time; Macy's, Gimbels and Bloomingdales
were but a few.
In 1945, Mr. Rosen passed the business on to Paul Pecorella and Burt Sarachini - who at the time were
his two lead repair
men. Paul and Burt led Modern forward for the next four decades.
In
1983, Burt decided to retire and sold his share of the business to Paul's son Tony, who had started working
at Modern
in 1977.
Father and son went forward until 1994 when
Paul called it quits and sold his half of Modern to Paul Regensburg, who is Tony's
brother-in-law, keeping Modern family owned and operated for 63 years and counting.
